The Anthurium andraeanum is a rare houseplant that actually prefers life away from strong sun. Where most flowering plants sulk in a shadowy corner, this one thrives, producing those glossy, heart shaped spathes in surprisingly low light. I keep mine on a north facing windowsill, and it has bloomed on and off for two years with almost no direct sun at all. Direct midday sun will scorch the leaves, so filter it with a sheer curtain when needed. Rotate the pot a quarter turn each week so all sides reach the light evenly.
